This is the time of the season when plants are being transitioned from the greenhouse to the cold frame and then eventually on to the open garden. the plants that were in the cold frame in mid April are now growing well in the open garden.

Different crops can tolerate different temperature ranges. This is a topic I used to teach about in the Environmental Science course. The second wave of plants to go into the cold frame include sweat pea, Swiss chard, arugula, escarole, spinach, and the flower alyssum.

The greenhouse is still quite full of the plants that are less able to withstand cool temperatures. tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, petunias and many more are growing well and in another week will be taking up their place in the cold frame to harden off. By June first the outside nighttime temperatures should be warm enough so that all of the plants can grow well in the ope garden.

If I read correctly you used an all purpose 10/10/10 fertilizer and then added osmicote slow release fertilizer. That’s not too much?
