Moving Day For The Irises

Preparing to change this garden strip. The pot contains daffodil bulbs I had just dug up.

Two years ago I planted white flowered daffodils and pink tulips along the front of the shed garden rock wall. Last year they put on a nice display.

A nice combo

Sometime between last spring and this spring the voles discovered the tulip bulbs and ate every one of them. The daffodils were safe as they are poisonous to the voles and the white flowers were still nice but I decided to make a change. Very early this morning (already 80 degrees at 7 am) I dug up one section of daffodils to open up that spot for irises I wanted to transplant.

I trimmed the iris leaves so they would be less likely to sway in the wind and displace the roots. I don’t think the voles will be interested in irises.

As it turned out I had too many irises for this location so I found another appropriate spot. I had dark purple, yellow, white and bronze colored irises from our perennial garden. Iris like full sun with soil that has good drainage. I will find a new location to plant the daffodil later. This seems like a simple enough job, but in this heat and humidity it was all I could accomplish this morning. In for a shower and the final round of the British Open on TV!

The rest of the iris corms will put on a nice display here next spring.
